Curator in Residence: A talk with Syafiatudina
From April till July 2015, Syafiatudina of KUNCI Cultural Studies Center in Yogyakarta was invited to work as a curator in residence at the Weltkulturen Museum Frankfurt, Germany – a program initiated by the famous ethnographic museum in cooperation with the KfW Foundation. Syafiatudina usually focuses on critical knowledge production and its dissemination. During her residency at Frankfurt, the young curator from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, developed an interest in the relationship between amateur researchers, collectors, the museum and its public. In the end, she presented her findings through the exhibition “Gloves in Action” – in form of a research center with ethnographic objects that also could be touched, with a small library and a film.
On Friday, 18th December 2015, 7pm, at Cemeti Art House, Syafiatudina will present her research and share her experiences as curator in residence. She will discuss how museums can function as a site for learning and participating, rather than as space for presentations which can only be watched in a passive way.
Please be kindly invited to Encounters #8, the last of our series of discussions at Cemeti Art House and at the same time the closing event of the German Season in Yogyakarta this year.
The German Season is an initiative of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairsheld from September to December 2015 in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Indonesien, the German Embassy in Jakarta and the German-Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (EKONID).
