Indonesian Literature after the Frankfurt Book Fair – what’s next?
In October 2015, Indonesia was the Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Hundreds of Indonesian writers, publishers, translators, official representatives and artists from all disciplines went to Germany to present Indonesian literature, arts and culture to a global audience.
Apart from all official promotion and argy-bargyin advance and even after the event – how did the participants themselves experience the world’s biggest book show? How did the local and international audience react to readings, performances and discussions by and with Indonesian authors, artists and intellectuals? Could the Indonesian guests learn and eventually take home new ideas from this event? And: How could we use these lessons learned for the future of Indonesian literature?
Join our open forum on Wednesday, 25 November 2015 at 6.30 pm. The writers and poets Abidah El Khalieqy, Gunawan Maryanto and Joko Pinurbo will share their personal experiences at Frankfurt and discuss with the forum the outcome of the book fair.
This program is the fifth event of German Season/Encounters – a series of discussions presented at Cemeti Art House.
The German Season is an initiative of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairsheld from September to December 2015 in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Indonesien, the German Embassy in Jakarta and the German-Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (EKONID) in major cities all over Indonesia.
